What Age?

People age differently and at differing rates.  There is a new two year study of 43 individuals that seeks to classify them into types.  Aegotypes.

  • Immune (generate more inflammation)
  • Kidney (more prone to kidney diseases)
  • Liver (more prone to liver diseases)
  • Metabolic (greater risk of diabetes)

Cardio could be another type of aging, but was not studied.  Some individuals fit in some or all of the types.  That would suck.

They guessed that drugs, diet and lifestyle interventions were possible modulators.

Let me guess and list what is the most important aging factors.  It’s my webpage, so I can spread my uninformed and uneducated opinions:

  1. Food and Nutrition
  2. Exercise
  3. Sleep
  4. Breathing
  5. Environment
  6. Stress
  7. Genetics
  8. Childhood health and nutrition
  9. Childhood stress levels and environment
  10. Education
  11. Zip code
  12. Economic status
  13. Country
  14. Job

So my list is ordered from most important to least important.  I do not list drugs or alcohol but they should be included in the Food and Nutrition category.  Drugs and alcohol probably have a benefit at low levels of use.  But can very easily slip into harmful category.  The body can respond to short term deficiencies and bouts of sickness and inflammation.  Aging is simply an accumulation of small insults that slowly chip away at the body’s ability to recover and respond to damage. 

Minimize the damaging inputs and maximize the bodies positive healing inputs and we should be most of the way to slowing the aging process.
