Tibet Taiwan Tiananmen Square
And now Hong Kong. I mean add Hong Kong to the list of unmentionables. Why is Hong Kong unmentionable? China, a communist dictatorship, brutal in it’s treatment of it’s perceived enemies, has it’s hot buttons. It is state policy that Taiwan is a rebel and rogue state that is part of China. What a stupid denial of the current truth? Tibet is a country invaded and repressed by China, had monasteries destroyed and its spiritual leader the Dalai Lama chased out to India. Tiananmen Square in 1989 was the scene of massive student led pro democracy protests and a brutal massacre by the government to end the protest.
Present day Hong Kong is experiencing massive protests by citizens against Hong Kong’s proposed (now withdrawn) policy of extradition to China. Protests have evolved to broader issues of Democracy. China would like Hong Kong to stop any criticisms of the communist dictatorship’s rule. But 50 years of freedom and autonomy have shaped a more independent mindset in Hong Kong’s citizens.
Businesses or government officials knew that good relations with the Chinese meant avoiding these three Tees. And now, add Hong Kong to the list of unmentionables. It is my opinion that corrupt governments will not last. China celebrates 70 years of Communist rule but cannot last if it resorts to violence to solve problems.
