We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America
The preamble to the constitution refers to a more perfect Union. It is at once an admission of imperfection and a stated goal of striving toward an ideal of perfection.
So wise and concise. The words dripping with the blood of patriots. The words are bittersweet, so hopeful that Liberty so hard fought will be gifted to us.
Struggle and striving continue to this day. When we come to believe that money and power are more important than ethics. That right and wrong are flexible. Or that laws and rules don’t apply to the elite. We have stopped trying to be more perfect. We dishonor the country and the constitution.
In a Monarchy, the king rules supreme. In the US we have a President. We also have the Judicial and Legislative. The Republican Party of today will find out that Democracy is not dead. Monarchy is. The Judicial is slow to change. But 2020 elections are coming. The electorate will not forget what today’s legislators are saying or not saying. We will not forget when justice is not served.
History is being recorded now. We are witnessing historic events these days.
